Christening of Wan Hai 311, the Largest and Most Advanced Container Vessel Designed and Built in Singapore
Jurong Shipyard, a subsidiary of SembCorp Marine today achieves a significant milestone today when the newly constructed 2,646 TEU container vessel will be officially named "Wan Hai 311" by Lady Sponsor,Madam Cai Jingying, wife of Mr Hu Hanxiang, President of the Association for Shipping across the Straits.
The first of six units of container vessels to be built for Wan Hai Lines, the construction of Wan Hai 311 represents an engineering feat in the history of shipbuilding in Singapore. Wan Hai 311 is the largest and most advanced container vessel designed and built in a shipyard in Singapore.
The construction of the container vessel is based on the design developed inhouse by Jurong Shipyard’s engineering team. The design, known as the Jubilee Class container vessel is proprietary to Jurong Shipyard. Measuring 213m x 32.2m x 16.5m, the container vessel has a high service speed of 23 knots with high homogeneous container intake of more than 1960 TEU at 14 ton per TEU. It has the ability to load two tiers of high-cube containers in hold and accommodating up to 2,646 TEU, including 1,688 TEU on deck and 958 TEU in hold. Additional features include a lashing bridge and an increase in container carrying capacity.

On delivery, Wan Hai 311 will be deployed to meet Wan Hai Line’s increasing demands in the Intra Asia and Transpacific trade routes.

Leveraging on its experience and shipbuilding heritage, Jurong Shipyard’s foray into container shipbuilding commenced in 1997 with the construction of four units of 830 TEU series container ships based on the proprietary design developed by its in-house engineering department. The 830 TEU series had the ability to carry 568 TEU containers on deck and 263 TEU in the cargo hold. Following the successful launch of the 830 TEU series, the shipyard then proceeded to construct six units of 1,100 TEU containerships with a service speed of 19.5 knots.
Jurong Shipyard then progressed to modify and enhance its design to build more sophisticated container vessels under the 2,500 TEU series. Designed for quality, durability and performance, the containerships in this series are capable of carrying high container intake at fast speed of up to 23 knots. Two such units were built and delivered to a German owner.
The success and the strong demand for the 2,500 TEU series led to the launch of the 2,600 TEU series in 2004. Six units of the 2,600 TEU series were ordered by Wan Hai Lines and another two other units for German owner Reederei F Laeisz.

Each vessel will be built with the latest technology ofhaving a strong and security hull and fixed with the latest satellite communication system. The 7 new built vessels will be put into the Middle East Service and U.S.A. services to serve its valued customers better by providing more loading spaces to suit their needs.
