Sembcorp Marine and GE Renewable Energy’s Grid Solutions have secured a contract from RWE Renewables, to supply the high voltage direct current electrical transmission system for the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm. Sembcorp Marine’s scope of work includes the design, construction, installation and commissioning of the system’s offshore converter platform.

Through the Group’s fully owned subsidiary, Sembcorp Marine Financial Services Pte. Ltd, the Group secured a Sustainability-linked financing facility which references the Singapore Overnight Rate Average (SORA) from DBS Bank. This S$500 million facility is believed to be the first SORA-based Sustainability-linked loan for the maritime industry.

To advance decarbonisation in the marine industry, Sembcorp Marine, Shell and Penguin International signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly develop hydrogen as a marine fuel. The collaboration will see Sembcorp Marine designing, fabricating and integrating a hydrogen fuel cell system onto a roll-on/roll-off vessel.

Sembcorp Marine also won the Sustainability Award at the Singapore International Maritime Awards 2021. The Award, presented for the first time, lauds Sembcorp Marine’s steadfast commitment to sustainability, which is integrated into the Group’s business strategy and embedded into its operations.
