Singapore, 1 July 2022: Sembcorp Marine Ltd received the Distinguished Partner Award at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) 30th Anniversary celebration held at the ITE Headquarters & ITE College Central on 30 June 2022. The event was graced by Guest-of-Honour, Mr Teo Chee Hean, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security, and Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Education.

The ITE 30th Anniversary Distinguished Partner Award recognises Sembcorp Marine’s strong partnership with ITE in developing the capabilities of ITE staff and students and enhancing the opportunities for learning and development. The Sembcorp Marine-ITE partnership started as far back as the 1980s when ITE was then known as the Vocational & Industrial Training Board.

Sembcorp Marine’s steadfast sharing of expertise and resources, including internship placements and scholarships, and facilitating sharing of technology for ITE staff and students were affirmed by the institution.

Sembcorp Marine has also contributed in shaping the training curriculum for ITE’s Higher Nitec in Marine Engineering and Work-Study Diploma (WSDip) in Marine & Offshore Engineering and other marine related courses. Senior Executives and skilled professionals at Sembcorp Marine have dedicated time and unwavering support by serving in various committees in ITE including the Technical Committee for the WSDip in Marine & Offshore Engineering, Engineering Academic Advisory Committee and the DACUM (Developing A Curriculum) process.

Apart from providing academic and industrial training support, Sembcorp Marine believes in equal opportunities for children and youths to develop their potential and pursue their dreams. In 2018, Sembcorp Marine, together with ITE, set up the Financial Assistance Grant programme for the students of ITE requiring financial support. A total of $576,000 in grants have been disbursed since the start of the programme and a further disbursement of $284,000 was made in 2020.

At the celebration, Ms Low Khah Gek, CEO of ITE, expressed her gratitude to all partners who have contributed in various aspects to enhance the development and training of ITE students through knowledge, skills and technology transfer; the provision of expertise in the development and review of curriculum in new and emerging skills areas including the creation of new education pathways and programmes; as well as the provision of internship and overseas learning opportunities.

Mr Wong Weng Sun, Sembcorp Marine President & CEO, said, “The ITE community is a natural long-term partner and a rich resource for the offshore and marine sector. In working together with ITE, Sembcorp Marine endeavours to mould a new generation of engineers and young minds keen on a career in the exciting and evolving maritime industry.”
