Sembcorp Marine Bags Outstanding HSE Performer Award
Singapore, November 11, 2015: Sembcorp Marine has received an ‘Outstanding Health Safety and Environment (HSE) Performance’ award from Shell Shipping & Maritime (Shell).
Commending the Sembcorp Marine accolade, Capt. David Taylor, General Manager of Ship Management for Shell Shipping and Maritime said: “In the past year, we have dry-docked eight of our managed vessels at the Sembcorp Marine Admiralty Yard, signifying our confidence in Sembcorp Marine’s HSE standards. We continue to be impressed by their consistently high standards in HSE practices. We look forward to working with the team in meeting our future maritime needs.”
Sembcorp Marine Chief Operating Officer Mr Ong Poh Kwee said: “We are delighted with this prestigious recognition. It highlights our excellence in HSE practice, which is made possible by the collaborative relationship we share with business partners like Shell Shipping & Maritime over the years. We are encouraged by the award to continue striving for HSE improvement in our yard operations.”
The full citation on Sembcorp Marine’s Outstanding HSE Performer Award is as follows:
The winner of this award (Sembcorp Marine Admiralty Yard) is a well recognised ship repair facility in the world. It has prided itself in being one of the leading repair yards for LNG carriers in particular.
Shell Shipping has carried out over 8 dry dockings of its oil and LNG carriers at the Yard last year with very high HSE standards during each and every dry-docking.
In April 2014, Sembcorp Marine commissioned a third party, DNV-GL, to conduct a comprehensive benchmarking exercise to evaluate the Admiralty Yard’s HSE performance amongst other world class companies using the International Sustainability Rating System (ISRS) methodology. In this benchmarking exercise, DNV-GL compared the performance of the Yard against that of ISRS users worldwide based on assessments from 136 sites in 21 different countries. The Yard was placed at 8th level point among organisations worldwide. This puts it amongst the best in the world in terms of safety management performance and top in its industry category.
To our knowledge, no other shipyards had conducted a similar international benchmarking exercise before to compare HSE performance with industry peers and other world class companies using the DNV-GL ISRS methodology and achieved such a high ranking.
